Hanging Out in Owensboro

Friday I took a vacation day and picked up Beth and Gavin for an afternoon of geocaching in Owensboro.

The weather last week was amazing outside and every since Shawn and I had went geocaching a couple weekends ago, I've been itching to get out and do it again.  I had planned on a couple different locations to go to, and ended up with the Owensboro location.  The plan was to geocache, eat lunch at Shoguns, geocache some more, do a couple letterboxes, take Gavin to the park to play and maybe the splash park there.  Then I was going to take Beth home, and Gavin and I were going to meet Shawn for dinner.  Gavin was spending the weekend with us.

We ended up geocaching, eating lunch at Shoguns, going to Legion Park, geocaching more, going to English Park, and then ended the evening at the Owensboro riverfront for their Friday After 5 event.  Shawn ended up going to Henderson to eat supper with his brother and Christa.

On a side note, I took ALOT of pictures on Friday, so I'm trying to put them in some sort of order!

English Park.
Below is a travel bug I placed in one of the geocaches in Owensboro at English Park.  It's goal was to reach all 50 states and it was just placed the day before I got it in Evansville.  They had a great looking playground, and then a huge boat ramp, dock and parking area for putting boats in the water.

Playing and feeding the squirrels and birds at Legion Park.
If you like feeding birds and squirrels, go to this park and take crackers.  They will seriously eat at your feet and wait for more!

Playing at Smothers Park & Splash Area.

This picture is priceless!  He's trying to hide his cute little bootie while changing into his swimming trunks :)

About Friday After 5 (taken from their website)
Friday After 5 is a summer-long series of free outdoor concerts held every Friday on the stunningly beautiful Owensboro, Kentucky riverfront. Friday After 5 began in 1996 with four concerts and grew into a 16-week signature festival for the entire tri-state area hosting more than 50,000 visitors each season on the riverfront every Friday After 5. It’s Where the Weekend Begins! Fun. Friends. Free.  All events are free thanks to our sponsors. Friday After 5 was again named one of the “Top Ten Summer Festivals” in Kentucky and just won the prestigious Reader’s Choice Platinum Award for “Best Community Event” this year.  The festival includes live bands, family events, food and entertainment and our “Toast to the Sunset” at each Friday After 5.

There was a photo booth set up at the Riverpark Center...
